New Island Destinations
We ran a number of bespoke island ‘Trip & Trek’ adventures in 2019 to islands we hadn’t featured previously, resulting in some excellent experiences. This has added five new Hebridean islands, increasing our scope to 24 destinations. To make things more straight forward, we’ve re-designed our web pages, incorporating a dedicated ‘Islands’ tab. You’ll find a comparative description of each island in the introduction, helping you to hone in on a destination that matches your preferences.
Skye still remains by far the most popular destination. However we are concerned it’s just too busy and becoming something of a theme park with the well-worn route between four major attractions. Its single-tracked roads can’t really cope now with such volume of traffic. The drive to develop adventures elsewhere is our attempt to alleviate the considerable tourism strain on one island and lead people to landscapes that rival Skye. Each island is unquestionably unique and for some visitors, it has to be Skye! We will take you there and suggest walking to some lesser known wonders, seeking out the beauty and solitude that most never venture to experience on Skye.
Our ‘Islands’ section will hopefully convince you to consider other islands. Harris is my personal favourite - unrivalled for the grandeur of its mountainous interior stunningly set off by its long sweeping stretches of fine white sandy shores. But it takes more time to reach the Outer Hebrides, so if 4-days is all that’s available, then Mull is ideal. Of similar size to Skye, and complete with its own rugged grandeur, the island oozes with history dating back from Neolithic times. Of course it’s made famous by Columba establishing his monastery on the off-shore isle of Iona. Do browse and if the set itineraries aren’t quite what you’re looking for, then we’re happy to chat to put together your own bespoke adventure.
