Isle of Arran

4 days / 3 nights

The Isle of Arran is very accessible from Glasgow and yet feels a thousand miles removed. This tour with walks connects with the finest scenery and history that the island has to offer, with an option to hike to the summit of one of Arran’s peaks, walking through forests to waterfalls and exploring the ancient neolithic and Celtic past

It was late in life that I discovered Arran. Wrongly thinking somewhere within easy proximity of Glasgow would have little of the wild to offer, I had sought out the more far-flung outer isles of the Hebrides when seeking adventure. How wrong I was, though, about Arran. This island has everything, with lots of attractive villages, good cafes and inns, and is of a size to make 4-days there seem too short.

This ‘Tour & Trek’ can include the following:

  • A walk over Machrie Moor to contemplate the stone circles and the coming of the Celtic Christians.

  • A tour of the southern part of the island with a hike along the coast to visit the King’s cave.

  • An optional hike up one of Arran’s fine peaks.

  • Walk in the woodlands and along the streams of Brodick castle.

  • A tour of the northern half of the island, and a coastal hike out from Lochranza.

  • Walk up to view the finest waterfalls on Arran at Glenashdale above Whiting Bay and on to visit the Giant’s graves.

There are other options to see and do, which can be planned in. Such as:

A mountainous interior in the north.

A surprising find: a cabin filled with poems, artwork and memoirs
