The Southern Hebrides featured in this tour and trek is a group of 3 main islands that are neighbours and yet so very different from one another. Islay is well-populated with lots of beautiful beaches. It’s known as the whisky isle, and whilst there’s an option to do a distillery tour, our focus is on doing some great walks and understanding its fascinating past of Celtic chapels and as the seat of the Lord of the Isles. Jura is little populated and is a vast island of wildness with the Correyvreckan whirlpool at its northern end. Colonsay is something in between the two, with an unforgettable paddle across the watery strand to the tidal island of Oronsay.

This ‘Tour & Trek’ will include the following:

  • A walk to the American monument commemorating the tragic loss of lives from two shipwrecks, taking in the wild and expansive views of the Mull of Oa.

  • A visit to the Celtic chapel at Kildalton with one of the finest ancient stone crosses.

  • Walk the broad expanses of some of Islay’s beautiful beaches.

  • A day on Jura, choosing from a selection of great hikes to remote places.

  • Enjoy a slow voyage to Colonsay and the Hebridean charm of what feels like a far-flung destination.

  • Paddle across the tidal strand, joining Colonsay to Oronsay and walk to the remote Celtic monastery.

  • Sample from a number of hiking options to explore Colonsay’s beaches, chapels and fine coastal scenery.
